PrepPoint -- College Advising

College Advising

In addition to providing free information to students and families through our sister site, www.College-Admissions-Secrets.com, we offer private college advising throughout the Bay Area and the U.S.

About the College Adviser

Eva is a certified college adviser with a B.A. from Harvard and a certificate in College Admissions Advising from UC Berkeley. Her diverse professional background includes working as a Harvard Admissions aide and interviewer; editing hundreds of application essays with a leading essay-editing service; serving as a college admissions speaker at local high schools and community education programs; and founding PrepPoint.

Why Work with a College Adviser?

  1. Improve your options. You can work with an adviser to make yourself a stronger candidate over time, to identify promising college options, and to create the best application you can.
  2. Save time. Don't wade through dozens of books and websites. An adviser can answer common questions and connect you with the resources you actually need.
  3. Reduce stress. In addition to offering structure and clarity during this confusing process, a college adviser can also serve as a much-needed buffer between stressed-out students and parents.

How We Can Help

Working together by phone, via email, and in person (Bay Area only), we can help you...

Explore your options

  • Research colleges
  • Develop your college list
  • Make the most of your college visits
Create strong applications
  • Craft great application essays
  • Create a polished resume or "brag sheet"
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Select appropriate recommendation writers
  • Establish standardized testing schedules and prep plans
Manage the application process
  • Keep on top of requirements and deadlines
  • Proofread applications so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Answer any questions along the way
We can work together from start to finish, or just collaborate on the portions where you most want outside support.

The Process

First, we'll have a brief discussion to see if we're a good match. If so, an introductory questionnaire and additional discussion will further clarify what your goals are and what kind of support you'd like--Do you want to schedule regular coaching sessions with assignments and deadlines? Do you want to manage the process yourself, but have me as an on-call resource as needed? Or something in between? Based on your goals, we'll work together to select a college advising package that makes the most sense for you: 30 hours ($2,670), 20 hours ($1,980), 10 hours ($1,090), 5 hours ($595), or individual "a la carte" hours ($149). You can dedicate this time to "live" support (e.g., in-person meetings or phone calls) or "offline" support (e.g., questions by email, essay editing, research on your behalf).
